Burke Lake Park

Why I'd post a winter scene here in the springtime is unclear to me but here it is. This is a large watercolor at 18"x24". I have avoided working from photos these days but I felt this one and several older paintings like it are worth posting. I did this painting from a selection of photos I took once while walking through a local park here in Fairfax, Va. I turned the picture into a moonlight snow scene because the back lighting simply suggested it. By the way, talking about large watercolors, has anyone seen the work of Walton Ford? He does huge watercolors, there is one in the American Museum of Art here in Washington that is 7' x 11'. here is a link:

  2. This is beautiful Stephen, snow is hard to capture, in photo, in paint. Your lucky to be around so many lovely spots or maybe you just find them. and your last post of three were equally beautiful, rich and full, your good.
    and the post before that one, the commission, so hard, l always try to forget that l'm doing it for someone, only way it will work. :)

  4. Stephen: This painting is absolutely beautiful. It really is. The whiteness of that snow is so (I hate to use this word) enchanting.

    P.S. Did see the Walton Ford painting, and there are other "big" things besides the size of the piece(lol)

    Love this painting. Sun reflecting off the snow is very real. Trees are spectacular. Great job on this.
