Seneca school

This is Seneca school in Maryland. It is a historical site left standing as it was in the 19th century. The tin roof is badly rusting but the stone walls may never fall down. I included a setting of 19th century children at play in the scene but left the building as I sketched it on a cold gray November day. In lieu of this conflict of settings I can only draw the conclusion that my characters must be ghosts who are still there only we don't see them

Riley's lock

Here is the latest in my C&O Canal series. This is Riley's lock. I added a lot of children in the scene because the historian at the lock house told me the Riley's were a big family of seven back in the 19th century. I created the watercolor from my sketch that I made on location. The house is as you would find it today, everything else in the painting I made up.
